From the first season of American Horror Story to Hannibal , some shows have proven that horror can not only succeed on TV but thrive and innovate as well. So when I started to hear a buzz around a Netflix show called The Haunting of Hill House , I knew I had to check it out. I ended up watching it with a friend and had a blast doing so. Wells’s classic horror story The Invisible Man was recently released for rental so that, despite theaters closing around the world, cinephiles like myself could enjoy this film in the comfort of their own homes. So thanks to that, I’m writing another Review Rewind for you! I am once again not familiar with the source material of the book or the previous film adaptations of this classic story, but that did not prevent me from thoroughly enjoying this film. I’m a big fan of horror/thriller films that mess with your head and build up tension without the need for monsters or jump scares; when you’re left to imagine what is out there, that’s when you can truly terrify yourself. by Daniel Andrade Courtesy of Blumhouse Productions Fantasy Island was a show that originally debuted in the late ‘70s and ran for 7 seasons (and was briefly revived for one season in 1998), and it was one of the pivotal examples of the saying “Be careful what you wish for.” In all iterations of the show, guests to the mystical island were granted one of their fantasies, but it often came at a price, and always had to be seen through to its conclusion. This basic premise remains intact for the latest version of this story, a feature-length film from the horror/thriller juggernauts at Blumhouse. I am a huge fan of horror films in general and have a great respect for Blumhouse, which has given us some of my favorite contemporary horror films such as Happy Death Day , Get Out , Insidious , Unfriended , and Paranormal Activity .
